JR-East Network

Most of the trains in central Tokyo are operated by the company “Japan Railways East” (JR East). The JR network consists of 15 train lines running within Tokyo. If you have the JR Pass, you will have access to these lines as well as the Shinkansen services serving the Shinagawa, Tokyo, and Ueno stations.

Yamanote Line

In a circular shape, this is the most important railway line in the capital. Used daily by 3.7 million passengers, it serves 30 stations in Tokyo. Depending on where you live, you will easily cover half of the line, which will take you around 30 minutes.

Shonan-Shinjuku Line

Connects Tokyo, Yokohama, and Kamakura.

Chuo Sobu Line

Running from East to West Tokyo, this line connects the Mitaka station (West Tokyo) to Chiba, passing through important stations like Tokyo, Akihabara, and Shinjuku.

Keio Line

Between Shinjuku station and Sasazuka station (West Tokyo).

Saikyo Line

From Osaki (South Tokyo) to Omiya (direction Saitama). Passes through the Ebisu, Shinjuku, and Shibuya stations.

Keishin-Tohoku Line

A very busy line connecting the cities of Saitama, Tokyo, Kawasaki, and Yokohama (from the north to the south of Tokyo).
